Is this Week Too Expensive?

Supreme is Known for Higher Price Points: Is this Week Pushing it Too Far? Jeffrey Holmes May 15, 2019             Headlined by collaborations with McDermott, Playboy, and GORE-TEX, Week 12 of Supreme Spring / Summer 2019 is a diverse drop, despite its small size.   With YouTubers like 8oone calling this a “brick week,” [1] the initial reception to seeing this collection has been negative overall, but the reason for this is not the items themselves, but the pricepoints at which they are being offered.   At the time of writing, retails have not been officially announced for these items, but the predictions are currently steep, with the McDermott Pool Cue being estimated between $400 and $600 and the 24k gold Front Keychain estimated at a minimum $500. [2]             Regarding the McDermott collaboration, high end pool cues tend to sell for more than twice of what Supreme’s take on them is estimated to retail at.   Cues by brands like Predator Cues [3] and Balabushka Cue

Diamond Plate Vans Collaboration Highlights Week 11 of Supreme SS19 Jeffrey Holmes May 8, 2019             Following up the masterful Jean Paul Gaultier x Vans from Week 7, this week’s Supreme drop spotlights another Vans collaboration. [1]   The two skateboarding mainstays will be releasing pro model Sk8-His and Slip-Ons, each in three colorways, on May 9, 2019 exclusively via Supreme.   With the first Supreme x Vans collaboration debuting in 1996, the two imprints have a storied history of working together. [2]             This week continues that legacy with the Diamond Plate range, brandishing a diamond print on suede and heavy branding from both brands.   The Sk8-Hi is constructed with suede panels and a canvas upper while the Slip-On features an entire canvas upper.   Like other Vans pro models, both shoes are lined with leather for increased durability.   While these offerings are not as loud as the Jean Paul Gaultier line, the excessive branding does not lend itse

Will the Travis Scott Jordan 1 Be the Sneaker of the Year?

Travis Scott Continues Jordan Collaboration with New Capsule Jeffrey Holmes May 7, 2019             Travis Scott’s professional career has played out like Kanye West’s in so many ways that Pitchfork Media has even called him a biter of West wholesale. [1]   Like West, Scott started producing music for others, then himself, and then moving into the world of fashion.   Alongside his 2018 album Astroworld , Scott dropped a line of limited merchandise to support the project, but last year also saw him collaborate with Nike on an Air Jordan 4 in a Cactus Jack colorway.   He is striking while the iron is hot, releasing another capsule worldwide with Jordan Brand this year, including staple Jordan pieces like tracksuits and tees, but most notably, a new Jordan 1. The collaboration drops this Saturday, May 11, 2019, boasting the Air Jordan 1 High OG in Cactus Jack as its key piece.   With resell platforms like Stockx currently pricing the shoe around the $800 mark, [2] this wi

Nike x A-COLD-WALL* Catching Heat?

One Collaboration is Reinvigorating an Old Sneaker Jeffrey Holmes May 2, 2019           On April 28, 2019, A-COLD-WALL* dropped a fourth iteration of their collaborative Nike sneaker, the Zoom Vomero +5, in the Redox colorway.    A fruit punch take on the brutalist trainer, this is coming off the heels of this year’s Solarized drop, and the Anthracite and Sail released on both brands’ platforms in November 2018.    This comes in conjunction with Nike releasing its own retro of the shoe last month, the SE SP.    The original Zoom Vomero +5 was touted as a technical marvel for runners when Nike first issued the shoe in 2010, [1]  and the decision to retro a shoe so early in its lifespan serves as a sign of the mighty Swoosh’s confidence in it.    Breathable and lightweight, the sneaker features a mesh upper and Zoom Air cushioning for a surprisingly durable high-performance running shoe.
